When I finally decided to ignore all the fluff and hype being thrown in my face, I discovered that I had been going about the process all wrong...completely wrong in fact!
Success was NOT about how to make money. I later found out that making money was actually the easy part.
The real secret to success was not the "method" of making money...not at all! it was all about traffic! Talk about NOT seeing the forest for the trees!
You see, all the hyped eBooks I bought told me how to make money on a website. I could sell affiliate products or use drop shipping or whatever. But their missing ingredient was traffic. They didn't cover this because what sold their ebooks was the promise of easy money.
Sure, some of the fluff products pretend to help with the traffic issue, but like the rest of their product, things in the real world didn't work quite like they promised. I discovered time and again that "push button" traffic was nothing but hype.

There is one very simple Internet marketing truth: Once the traffic issue is solved, everything else becomes easy.
Lucky for me a few of my early mentors were focused on SEO...Search Engine Optimization. I used Google and Yahoo at that time; but it never occurred to me how important those search engines would be for my future success.
My mentors claimed they were getting massive amounts of visitors to their sites because they ranked well in the search engines; I needed to learn exactly how they were doing it!
So I buckled down and studied; I decided to treat Internet marketing like a real business instead of a "get rich quick" fantasy.
From this point on, life got a whole lot better!
Google About Gave Me A Heart Attack One Day!
After a while of studying the SEO process, I created a small niche site and put a few product links on it. Honestly, I had so many failures in the past, I didn't expect anything to happen.
Then, a few weeks later I received a confirmation email from PayPal saying that something had been sold! I looked in my PayPal account and there was the money! Holy Cow! Where did that come from? How did this happen. I actually sold something? Really?
How did someone even find my site I wondered? It surely must have been some random fluke.
But I went to Google and typed in the search term I had written my home page for. What I saw made my heart literally skip a beat!
My site for that keyword was on the FIRST PAGE of Google! Honestly, I must have sounded like a stammering fool when I called my wife at her work to tell her the great news! I won't ever forget that day.
I felt pure relief. I knew right then and there I was on the right track and I really would have the success I dreamed so long for!
It's amazing what a tiny spec of success can do for a person's self esteem and optimism! I had found my road at last! I could actually see some light!
