How NOT to Build a WebSite: Homestead, Register.com, GoDaddy, BlueDova, Build Your Site, Squidoo, web.com, etc. all offer design wizards which create an "instant" site. These are all a BAD idea. Remember, creating a site is one thing...getting traffic is another! These wizard tools create very bloated and usually very unfriendly code with respect to the search engines. Most of those sites require 2 or 3 times as much coding in the background as a real website. Search engines hate them! Secondly, some of the sites allow you to have your own domain while others don't. DO NOT invest time and effort into a website which is not yours! If your site's address is not in the form of www.YourDomain.com, it's not really yours! Third, those instant wizards won't allow you the flexibility you need with your site. You are locked in with THEIR design. It is very difficult, if not impossible to get the navigation and design just the way it should be. Lastly is the cost! There are free ones but they are a complete waste of your time. The ones that charge per month can be expensive just for one site! How Long Will it Take to Learn?
Everyone is different of course. Plus it depends on your current computer skills. If you already are somewhat computer savvy (as with files, folders, etc.) and can have very basic word prepossessing skills, you already have a great head start!
